HISTORY TAEKWON-DO SONKAL

SONKAL AND HISTORICAL PROGRESS

Taekwon-do and Černý Most or also if you want to Černý Most and Taekwon-do, but whatever the order is together it goes very well and it has been going on for many years. More precisely since September 1994, when a recruitment demonstration took place in Černý Most, which attracted to the gym of Vybíralova elementary school a nice few enthusiasts of this worldwide very popular martial art. Many of the pioneers of that time are no longer practicing Taekwon-do, but the most persistent ones, and nowadays we can say the best ones, remained and are the current driving force of the club. From 1994 to 1998 the local section was under the banner of the Kerberos Taekwon-do Academy. These years were not without success, because from the ranks of the trainees came the junior world champion in sparring Lucie Grégrová.

The year 1998 became a turning point in the further development of Taekwon-do in Černý Most. The current coaches Theodor Seda and Ondřej Vrábel were at the birth and Marcel Růžička also contributed with his help. On 10 June the club was registered as a civil association at the Ministry of the Interior, on 20 June the Council of the Czech Taekwon-do Federation approved our admission as a full member of the Taekwondo family and finally on 20 July we were registered with the International Taekwon-do Federation (ITF) in Vienna under the number 5430.

In September of the same year we had our first recruitment, which brought many new and very promising faces into our ranks. The recruitment is repeated every year, because our goal is to develop the club and Taekwon-do!

In January 1999 Pavel Bareš joined the coaching team and subsequently the management of the club.

In the spring of 2002, our activities expanded beyond the borders of Prague - to Kladno. In the Rozdělov district of Kladno we run our second gym. Another breakthrough came in September 2004, when we expanded our network of gyms to three. This time the new gym is in the Petřiny district of Prague.

At the beginning of 2010 Sonkal stopped training in the Kladno gym and concentrated on the operation of both Prague gyms.

A big change came at the beginning of 2011 when Theodor Seda finished his activity in Sonkal and in May a new management was elected. Ondřej Vrábel became the manager and Martin Svitek and Vladimír Švanda became members of the wider management.

Since September 2015 we have been expanding our activities and opening a new gym in the Faculty Primary School Chodovická in Horní Počernice.

Another expansion year is autumn 2017, when we add a third gym in the eastern part of Prague - BPA Hloubětín. Since September 2018, we have been expanding outside of Prague, specifically to Velké Přílep, where we train in the Jablíčko Kindergarten.

In September 2022, our network will grow by two more locations - Prague's Břevnov Primary School Marjánka and another non-Prague location Velká Dobrá

It is worth mentioning the name change from Taekwon-Do ITF Sonkal Praha z.s. to Sonkal z.s., which took place in August 2020. The change is cosmetic, but it describes our functioning not only in Prague.

ACHIEVEMENTS OF SONKAL MEMBERS

We can safely say that Sonkal members have been very successful since its inception not only at the national but also at the international level. This is evidenced by a large number of titles of Champions of the Czech Republic and numerous medals from international competitions, including the European and World Championships! Individual achievements can be found in the sports achievements section.

Among the non-competitive achievements we highlight 16 September 2020, when the head of Sonkal received the title of Taekwon-Do Master, i.e. 7th dan. Despite the long history of taekwondo in the Czech Republic, he is only the fourth holder of this technical degree. A list of Sonkal men and women who have received black belts can be found here.
