Winner series still continues

Another year passed and we had our traditional challenge before us. That means making arrangements for Sonkal Open the competition for pupils, juniors and seniors to take each other on in sparring and patterns contest. This year prepared and innovation in the hall which meant four rings.
There were several reasons for this – very numerous amount of referees and large amount of contestants.

After early morning registration a few minutes past ten o´clock we could assemble the crowd of 22 schools, one of which was from Slovakia. 195 contestants lined up within rings and after the opening ceremony particular matches of pupil female and afterwards pupil male category began. There were a big number of children as usual, especially among yellow and green belts, for who this mostly meant the first steps of competing. Yet, right before the lunch time we managed to implement the sparring competition of pupil category.

There were served pasta as the lunch for referees to fill them up with energy and at 13:30 went on with our competition. At first the best pupils were awarded, those were:
- pupil male category – Jan Veškrna, Sonkal
- pupil female category – Klára Kroviařová, Karviná

This time the rings were crowded with colour belts of junior males, females and also senior males and females. Subsequently we had to release some of competing referees for there was whole competition of black belts awaiting us. Some of them were really busy due to double starts and they were literally running from one ring to another. Anyhow, that´s what these contests are.

At about 16:00 o´clock a few skeptic brains started worrying that the sparring was just at the beginning. But the management knew we were ahead of time contrary to the schedule and the end of the contest was going to be much earlier compared to last year.

We could see many perfect fights during sparring not just because of former members of national team. At about 18:00 o´clock the end of contest was coming closer, even though vigorous referees were still demanding new categories over and over. With a big smile on our faces we had to disappoint them. At half pas six we awarded the best competitors:
- the best junior male – Jirka Novák, Sonkal
- the best junior female – Petra Jíchová, Sonkal
- the best senior male – Patrik Tuzar, Panter
- the best senior female – Jana Kovářová, Sonkal

Sonkal again retained the overall first place and the placing was as follows:
1. Sonkal – 17-15-15
2. Karviná – 6-5-7
3. Panter – 6-0-1
