We have twice European Champion in our club!

At the turn of September and October (28/9 - 1/10) 10.junior and 21.senior European championship took place in Greece Thessaloniki. Czech national team has priority of stay at least second best in Europe Taekwon-do. Sonkal sent two of his member to take part in this event - Ondřej Vrábel as a referee and Linda Deutschová as junior competitor. Linda was focused on getting some medals from this event after very successful World championship in July. She competed in I. Dan patterns, special techniques and self-defense + she was female junior team member.

Whole event took place in local sport hall, where also World championship 2003 was organized. Hall got just

small reconstructions in this 3 years and only thank to mild climate staying in hall was tolerable. There were 3 rings for patterns and sparring and then tatami for special techniques and one for power breaking.

After Thursday’s weighing and registration, event itself began on Friday. Individual and team patterns were first in schedule. Linda defeated few opponents and got to final of female junior I. Dan category. Her opponent in final duel was competitor from Russia and Linda won 4:1 and confirmed her successes from World championship. After this Linda helped female junior team to go through other teams till final. Our girls lost their final match against Russian team.

Also competition in self-defense (its premiere on international events) came off on Friday. Czech team was represented in all 4 categories (male/ female juniors + seniors) and got 2 gold and 2 silver medals and showed that our team will be part of the top teams also in this discipline. Linda as a part of one team got silver medal, but unfortunately injured her shoulder, not too seriously though.

Czech national team got 6 gold medals during first day of championship!

Saturday was dedicated to sparring and special techniques. Linda was perfectly prepared for rematch with Greek competitor (who got gold on World championship). As we have seen during competition itself these two girls were much advanced in flying kicks then rest of participants. Both girls got same score and had to continue in added techniques. Nomo yop chagi was selected by lot. Linda has her record much beyond basic 1,70m. Greek competitor failed in this technique, but Linda perfectly passed range, broke board and her preparation stance meant next gold medal for Linda!

Czech female competitors got 3 more gold medals so Czech team got 4 fold medals in total during Saturday.

Rest of sparring competition, team sparring, power breaking and team special techniques remained for Sunday. Linda and her teammates got gold medal in female junior special techniques and same success was achieved by male senior team. Double gold achievement got Věra Khunová (female senior sparring and power breaking) and Petra Tošnarová (female senior patterns and sparring).

Best competitors titles were awarded during closing ceremony. Czechs got 3 of these titles from 4 possible:

  • Linda Deutschová - female junior (2 gold medals)

  • Věra Khunová - female senior (2 gold and 1 bronze)
