We have another cup

Last weekend in Nymburk sports hall was dedicated to international Taekwon-do competition Czech Open 2014. This competition was organised for the 12th time and it was the first competition of 2014. This beginning of season started for Sonkal as well as the last season ended.
Our girls gained trophy for the most successful youth female (Lenka Hrstková) and junior female B (Tereza Štekerová). Also other competitors did well and earned some medals. I would like to mention twin sisters Tereza and Veronika Žilinská who competed at the same time in pattern competition and both won gold medals so they wouldn't have to envy each other. Even more interesting was medal fight between father and son. At first, more experienced Ondra Faltin won in youth male patterns from 6th to 5th kup and several minutes later he was followed by his father Jirka.

Also both Korean guys from Sonkal had very successful start of their competing careers. Ju won junior male patterns and Ri in senior patterns.

Number of medals we gained was very high and it meant 1st place for Sonkal in overall evaluation. Detailed list of all medals will be found soon in section Successes under Competitions.

This year of Sonkal Open fulfilled the title of international competition again. We had visitors from Greenland, Russia, Slovenia and Slovakia. I was pleased that every club gained at least one gold medal. It indicates overall quality of competitors.

In the end I must mention performance of Radka Heydušková who is without doubt the most experienced and also one of the most successful Czech female competitors. Radka came last year from maternal duties back on tatami to represent Czech Republic in veteran cathegory. Her show in senior category on Czech Open was great and her opponents on Europe TKD Championship in Minsk have something to look for!

I congratulate to all Sonkal members to earned medals and also thank you for your performances. Those who weren't successful this time - take it as a motivation for next trainings.

Next competition for us is Nitra Cup in less than one month so prepare yourselves well.
