4.3.2002 / Germany OpenMedails harvest in Germany
Already 7th year of the Germany Open Championship took place during the past weekend in Dortmund, Germany. The Czech national team has been taking part in this international tournament regularly in the last couple of years, the same this year. On Saturday, Juniors and Seniors colored belts compete and Juniors black belts as well. Sunday is devoted to Senior black belts and then to teams’ competitions. The team competitions have ITF rules modified a little bit, because teams have 3+1 member (instead of 5+1). Now step by step how the competitions went through.
Saturday competition started with an unprecedented 2 hours delay, which was reflected in competition finish time proportionally, instead of planned 8 pm the competitors were leaving the sports hall first at 10.30 pm :-( Following a short opening ceremony Pattern competitions started in all of the three rings. For national team newcomers this was next baptism of fire. But even though they showed themselves off as international experienced great fellows. In the concurrence of German, Dutch, Belgian and Lithuanian contestant they were doing very well, which is pointed to by results. The Pattern competition resulted in 1 medal for the Sonkal club (silver - Linda Deutschová). In the Junior 1.st dan category German rules modification appeared. Both of the contestants performed their free patterns separate and then the set one together. This fact resulted in very unfavorable and pointless extension of this category.
After the lunch break the Sparring competitions started at full stretch, in what our Linda defeated excellently both of the Lithuanian girl competitors and gained gold medal. Very good did Honza Mraček and Radek Košátko in Sparring.
Sunday was traditionally devoted to Senior black belts competitions. In comparison the previous years less competitors took part in matches this year. Because of injury of Tomáš Bobek, there was only one representative of us Hoang Quang Huy. He did pretty well in Patterns (tul) I. Dan, where he placed third. As for Czech colors the Pattern competitions meant other 1st positions of Věra Němcová (Pattern 1st dan), of Věra Khunová (Pattern II. dan) and of Rosťa Kaňka (IV. dan), and second positions of Jan Kubát, who was beated surprisingly in the final by a home contestant in the I. dan category, and of Petra Tošnarová (II. dan).
Following the individual competitions were team competitions (3+1 contestants). Smaller number of team members deprives just spectators, because choreography don’t come to the fore. Although our teams had been put together quickly and only a couple of dozens of minutes were devoted to drill, the final impressions were excessively good.
After the lunch break started successively Sparring competitions in all of the three rings. Huy had, in comparison with the last year, one contestant less in his weight category up to 54kg, but even this one showed off considerable strengthening and has been more than a sturdy rival. Huy achieved the first place. Other gold medals added Michal Košátko (up to 80kg) and Věra Khunová (up to 63kg).
In team competitions we had medal success as well, our girl teams got 1. and 3. positions, our boy team got 3. place (Huy).
