How do we practise in the summer camp?

Saturday described by Veronika Žilinská:
While Easter camp was cancelled due to Corona virus, we are now lucky that we are after one year in Malé Svatoňovice on a summer camp that everyone was looking forward to.

On Saturday 22.8. we met in front of Vybíralova school on Černý Most where mostly older, but also younger helped with loading of all equipment to the cars. There was many people helping so

it went very fast and we could head soon to Malé Svatoňovice, this time by two busses.

After the arrival, older prepared the sports hall and in the meantime younger accommodated themselves.

During the afternoon break we visited cafeteria Dášeňka that is situated on the square near the statue of famous Czech brothers, writer and illustrator Karel and Josef Čapek, because they were born here.

Before afternoon training, Ondra and Vláďa told us the rules how to behave on the summer camp and also new hygienic rules against the spread of Covid. Then we started the training with game, then we separated into groups according to the grade of students and we practiced fundamental movements and patterns.

On this summer camp, the group of lesser grades is led by Pavel Zavadil, Pavel Šnábl, Tereza Žilinská and Jiří Faltin.

The evening training, which was mandatory on the first day, we continued with practicing patterns.

Sunday described by Tereza Žilinská:
The second day of the summer camp begun with lower-degree-belt training. Their training was focused on step sparring which is required for their next testing. The kids were separated according to their technical degrees and were led by individual trainers. In the middle of the summer camp, the trainers will switch their groups so the kids won't have the same trainer throughout the whole camp. The training for higher degree belts included kick training to kicking targets and non-basic kicks were trained, for example biturochagi to all three body sections (nopunde, kaunde, najunde).

Kids' afternoon training was held outside and was focused on matsogi basic movements. The kids were divided into six groups. In these groups they played games during the training and also in the afternoon when they had spare time. For the games, they receive points which count to the main score of the big summer camp game. The winning team will be announced at the end of the camp. The older group practised matsogi movements inside the gym. All combinations were trained in couples. I personally enjoyed it very much.

During the evening voluntary training everybody could practice whatever he/she needed or wanted. Black belts had extra II. Dan patterns training for half an hour.

Monday and Tuesday described by Pavel Šnábl:
It is said that third day is always critical. During the training of lesser grades it seemed it will not confirm this time. The plan for morning training was tki, which means kicks in flight. We practiced the technique of jumping and also difficult switching of legs in flight. All students put great effort into it and I feel that some of them will be really good at it in the future. Unfortunately the mentioned saying came true during the beginning of higher grades training. One student hurt her ankle badly while jumping over obstacles. It was also bad that Vláďa Švanda already headed to the hospital with people who hurt themselves the previous day, so a second car driven by Jirka Faltin had to go to the hospital. Luckily nothing else happened and all jumpers did fine during the rest of the training. Afternoon training was separated into the mentioned groups by grades and for lesser grades it took place outside. The weather was very nice so the beginners could get tanned at the end of the summer. The goal of the training was to practice step sparring and then to show the best performance in step sparring competition. One other competition took place – belt tying, which will hopefully prevent belts from falling down of some students.

Tuesday’s training started with running outside and we continued with self-defence in the sports hall. We practiced how to escape from opponent’s grab, how to get your opponent to the ground and other things. Mainly the kids enjoyed it very much. Afternoon training was held outside again and was aimed at fighting exercises. After warm-up there was a competition, a relay race combined with throwing balls through rings. The rings were not far, so it seemed easy, but the effort to win combined with the wind made it hard. After the competition we trained very difficult double kicks, especially for younger kids, but all tried very hard and made good progress. Then we practised combinations of kicks and punches and at the end the people who had both fighting gloves and teeth protector could try few rounds of light boxing. At the end of the training, another competition took place. The goal was to build a tallest structure possible from foam swords and kicking pads that will hold itself. Some teams made rigid smaller structure, some build daring tall unstable structure. But all structures had to withstand few minutes when we measured them and unfortunately few of them collapsed and the teams jumped to the lowest score. Because Wednesday is a free day, on Tuesday evening there is a campfire so all could grill a sausage and older later sang a few songs with a guitar.

Free day described by Vanda Prasetová:
Wednesday is a free day – more day of active rest. In the morning we divided into two groups. The first went to pose for the main photographer Ondřej Vrábel, this time to bring Malé Svatoňovice famous as a place of birth of Karel Čapek and his Dášenka closer to you. Experienced students with higher grades enjoyed it and created effective scenes for our photographer and the less experienced didn’t stay behind. The result was pleasantly spent morning and the photos look really nice, judge for yourself.

Second group of more courageous led by Vláďa Švanda went for a trip to explore surroundings. All of them came back smiling and with nice experiences.

At the end of the free day there was a Tekken tournament. Both younger and older took place and played very emotive fights with loud support of their friends. Also the newbies did very well compared to almost professional players. It was an evening full of emotions and happiness from the play and the best received a T-shirt “Master of Tekken”.

Basketball tournament described by Jirka Faltin:
Sonkal NBA

During every summer camp, we have few things that we can rely on. Tuesday evening there is the campfire with sausage grilling which later in the evening changes to trial of singing of common songs and also of those of our club’s poet, guitar player, singer and the only inhabitant of Middle-earth in our club. Tuesday afternoon’s training is usually very hard and we all look forward to the next day, mostly our muscles.

But we torture our muscles slightly also during this day. In the morning, we usually go for some trip combined with taking photographs.

In the afternoon, there is regularly a basketball tournament, which I am entitled to organise.

In the younger group, 21 players signed in and in junior, senior and veteran 22 players. The tournament begins at 15:00 and after lunch we close signing in. Then the most questionable work starts – making teams. It is always very hard task to create even teams, considering also how tired the people are. Then draw the score tables and let google to generate matchlist.

Shortly before 15:00 we start to prepare the hall. This year for the first time we will play on tatami so only tie the nets properly, check the balls and mark the rings. Then quick welcome of the participants and introduction of the teams. We play the system every team against every team, match length is 6 minutes. Altogether 14 rounds with regular switching of younger and older.

It is not easy to organise, but luckily I have help of few willing assistants who check the time, collect results, play a music and also take some photos.
Everything runs smoothly, team captains flow with their teams through the matches and at 17:30 we announce the winners, give them chocolate medals and give the T-shirts “Master of Basketball” to the winning team.

6. and 7. day described by Tereza Štekerová:
A free day full of activities was followed by a relatively pleasant "start-up" day. The coaches probably realized that we needed one lighter day so that we could regenerate as best we could. We tried what it would be like to fight against the large predominance of opponents. We started with sparing one against three, then two against four, and finally one against five. It was definitely a very interesting experience for all of us.

At the same time, it was the last day of training for our coach Vlada Svanda, whose training we appreciated with applause and he rewarded us with sore feet.

Our another coach, Martin Svitek, arrived on Friday. With full zeal and dedication, he led the morning training, and told us all not to be such retirees.

After the afternoon rest, a group of smaller ones had a fun game of running for balls and a bit of basic theory. The youngest of the groups took part in this game, who had to remember the correct answer and bring it to their coaches.

In the afternoon we went to the famous foursome to which we were well moved from previous exercises and warm-up games. In the end, we had a very nourishing reinforcement for multiple kicks, in which everyone had to reach for their last energy reserves and overcome the pain. I think we all had a great time and had a great feeling from a well-done workout.

Last two days described byt Tomáš Vodička:
This year such as previous years I was at this legendary summer camp, which I have visited since 2006. Unfortunately I could not be at the camp for the all time, I was there only for three days. Everyone welcomed me very well.

On Saturday tranings were focused on an examination for technical degrees KUP. The examination started at seven pm. Almost everyone took part in the technical examination and demonstrated really good skills.

More than 40 participats took part in the technical KUP exam and everybody passed it. The grandmaster Hwang Ho-yong IX. dan was the leader of the commite. At the end of the camp we had the technical seminar with our granmaster Hwang. I was so happy that the seminar was realized. During the summer camp I forced myself to run, trainings were perfect and meetings with friends in the evenings were super. I really looked forward for the next summer camp.
