Czech Open 2016

On the days 19th and 20th March annual competition Czech open took place. During last year this contest grew up into enormous international event that is attended by a few hundred competitors.
This year was not distinguished from the others. The event was honored by the visit of competitors from Slovakia, France, Poland, Greece, even Greenland and a few other countries.

At ten o´clock a.m. on Saturday the registration and the weighing of competitors was taking place. The contest started about two o´clock p.m. with traditional line-up of the teams and the introducing of the referees and executive committee. As usual, pupils began the competition with their pattern match. After them juniors and then seniors categories went on. Veterans were integrated into the senior category, so they could compare their skills one another. The results were often really surprising.

During Saturday all of the disciples of pupils were finished and also some of juniors´ disciples. Others of them were postponed till Sunday´s part of competition. That part began early in the morning about 8:30 a.m. and competitors immediately started their action.

The whole competition ended very early, considering the number of competitors, about at 4 o´clock p.m.

All of the contestants had to show great performance for rivalry was extremely tremendous. And I believe that referees sometimes had to make really hard decision which flag they should raise, the red or the blue one. The decision could be influenced by the smallest detail.

I do not precisely remember who got which medal, but competitors had done really good job. For example Anetka Zelinková gained silver in patterns, Honzík Veškrna got gold in sparring.

Our prominent competitor Tomáš Vodička had some troubles in patterns contest and he lost the competition against veteran Libor Macháň. But then he compensated this loss in sparring contest where he won the gold. In the same disciple his devoted partner Jana Kovářová perfectly performed her skills and won too.

Speaking on my behalf I have to say that this tournament was a great experience for me and I am truly glad that I could take part in it, even though I did not achieve the medal post. However that did not discourage me from competing. On the contrary, it made me work much harder than I had done so far. And I hope that it had same influence to everyone else who attended the contest and those who did not accomplish the medal posts like me.

I look forward to join another tournament and hope that next year the attendance will be at least as large as this year.
