Antiaging master Jedut

Populistic title, I know, but…. I practiced under master Jedut for my second time. First time was in Znojmo twelve years ago. We went there to see Jaroslaw Suska. Most of Sonkals attending that time doesn´t practice anymore, just Vláďa and Ondra remained.

We all knew Suska´s videos, we wanted to see that kicks, to train under him. His trainings were interesting, but in my eyes, his instructor Jerzy Jedut was level ahead of him. Level of enthusiasm, depth of knowledge and understanding of Taekwon-do, of flow of trainings.

Master Jedut started to lead seminars near Prague few years ago. I was looking forward meeting him again, but my impotence of cloning myself forbid me to take part. But I made it this year for red belt and above part on Sunday. And I want to share few thoughts.

I was looking forward good trainings, just a bit nervous from its volume (three training blocks) and thinking if I will enjoy it in same matter I did in Znojmo in 2006. I spent these 12 years training under various instructors and with experience and knowledge, point of view changes. But it was of no use.

Master came to dojang, apologizing that he is loosing his voice from tiring travelling around the world. But with idea that normaly his body rejuvenate after first minutes of leading training. And he was right. We´ve started with „short“ 1-hour warm- up. Shields work, belt resistence training, few games. Hard training, fun and together with it also explaining stepping principles deeply. Explaining that when we participate in game we really should play playfully. His stepping is very nice to watch, very fluent, very quick. His torso is always leaning a bit in direction he want to move to, so he is alway falling with control. Most of young taekwondists showing something with him are slower because they just try to have fast legs. So master Jedut looks like extremely fast, but I think he is just extremely knowledgeable. And about games – he changed rules often to wake people up, but also ephasized that you want to be playful – think about changes, about tactics, about bluffing, about new ideas. And it was fun, so we forgot we are tired and one always refined ones skills and attention – good for both martial arts and life.

Master Jedut raised many European and world champions. One may see his training as sport focused, but I think there is something more. He said he is proud that he has many students practicing more than 20 years. We did not practice self-defence techniques, but while correcting our kicks (even the best of Sonkal kickers got many corrections) he emhasized power. Power useful both in sport match and street fight when necessary. He doesn´t discuss Encyklopedia editions variations but basic biomechanics in patterns. And we may see that his decades of training made it work. And for these deep overlaps I see his „master“ status as 100% right. Because I believe he can correct deeply world top level competitor, but also someone practicing sincerely for many years, but with different than sport focus.

PS: Master Jedut was not the only one master in dojang. There were also master Kaňka, training with us, sweating, playing, trying, discussing with humility. That is how I understand word „master“ too.
