The third episode of Sonkal\\\'s video project will take you to Prague Castle. Castle which was a residence of princes, kings and emperors from the 9th century. For the last hundred years, it works as a residence of Czech Republic\'s president. According to Guinness World Records, it\'s the largest ancient castle in the world and also the largest one still occupied. Cathedral of saint Vitus is also a part of the complex. Now days, it works as a storage for Czech crowning jewels, although in the past, it worked as the place where kings were crowned and many times, buried as well. Today, in our fourth part, we will take you to Wenceslas Square, whose original purpose and name was the Horse Market. The upper part of the square was originally dominated by the Horse Gate, which was demolished in 1786 and in the second half of the 19th century the building of the National Museum was built in its place. Another significant change underwent a square 40 years ago, when in 1980 the longitudinal operation of trams was canceled. The history of the monument of St. Wenceslas dates back to the middle of the 17th century and its current form, more precisely copy, has taken its place since 1959. Today we will take you to a street named after the important Czech poet, novelist, journalist, playwright and critic Jan Neruda. The street route was created during the new founding of the Malá Strana during the reign of Přemysl Otakar II. in 1267. To this day, it is one of the important connections between the Malá Strana, Prague Castle and the Pohořelec area. Along its entire length you will find more than twenty interesting buildings. It was originally named the Stone Bridge, although construction began in 1357 under the auspices of King Charles IV. The current name was not widely adopted until around 1870! It is interesting that the current form with three dozen mostly Baroque statues, the bridge began to acquire only at the end of the 17th century. The biggest damage occurred during the floods in 1890, when two bridge arches collapsed, three pillars were damaged and two valuable statues also fell into the water. It is Saturday, June 11, 1881, and Smetanas Libuše is on the program, like that we could characterize the ceremonial opening of the national tabernacle, so the National Theater in Prague. Unfortunately, two months later, a fire breaks out during the finishing works, destroying the copper dome, the auditorium, the curtain and the stage…. In the subsequent national collection, one million gold coins will be collected in just 47 days, and on November 18, 1883, Libuše of Bedřich Smetana is on the program again. In the 1970s, the entire theater went under extensive reconstruction and new buildings were erected on the side area, named The New Stage of the National Theater.
