It is Saturday, June 11, 1881, and Smetanas Libuše is on the program, like that we could characterize the ceremonial opening of the national tabernacle, so the National Theater in Prague. Unfortunately, two months later, a fire breaks out during the finishing works, destroying the copper dome, the auditorium, the curtain and the stage…. In the subsequent national collection, one million gold coins will be collected in just 47 days, and on November 18, 1883, Libuše of Bedřich Smetana is on the program again.
In the 1970s, the entire theater went under extensive reconstruction and new buildings were erected on the side area, named The New Stage of the National Theater. Take a look with us at the beauty of the national gem and if you are in Prague, you can enjoy visiting Café Slavia, which is located across the street.
