24.12.2019 / Kick box Czech OpenThe Kickboxing Experience
On Saturday the 5th of October our school Sonkal took part for the third time at the Kickboxing Open competition. The main reason of our presence was to try a little bit different style of fighting.
All of our contestants were competing in two disciplines – Point Fighting and Light Contact which similar to our Taekwon-Do ITF style).
Members of our team were Onřej Faltin, Jiří Novák, Jana Kovářová, Jan Dvořáček and Stepan Knyshov. The registration and weighing were on Friday evening. All of us fitted to our weight categories, some of us very closely. But in Kickboxing they have one-kilogram-over toleration. Organizers of Taekwon-Do ITF competitions could get inspired by this and don´t have to care if a contestant is 100 grams overweight because of which he must go to higher weight category.
Organization of the competition was satisfactory. I, personally, did not register any gaps between fights. Original schedule was delayed, though, and the fights were almost one hour postponed. Despite this, all of us stepped to the ring quite early.
Nobody of us was idle and we showed great effort. Still, except Stepan who managed to win the Light Contact discipline non of us won any of the fights. Very often it was because of the referees who mostly gave their points to the kickboxers. It was not my case. Because I kicked my opponent below the belt four times, I was disqualified in second round. I completely agreed with that for such a thing should never happen. Next time I´ll try to stretch myself a little bit more.
Regardless my faults I enjoyed my fighting in both disciplines. I am very satisfied with the performance of other Sonkal Team members. But I still think that in many cases the results should be quite opposite, which means in favour of our contestants. The way of umpiring at most of the rings and the way of treating our contestants disappointed us all. I think that next year we will think a lot about our attendance.
