Sonkal"s summer camp finished successfully

Training camp is here again. Saturday 24/8/08 – few tough Sonkal girls and boys travel by bus to Malé Svatoňovice near Trutnov. We chose our rooms and fill gym with our equipment just after arrival. Then we took lunch and I have to say that chef is improving year after year. Two ours break after lunch allowed us to prepare for first training and then it started – fundamental movements, patterns and some strengthening. Second training started moment after dinner and was dedicated to step sparring and patterns for next testing. Traveling and two trainings made us tired like dead so we enjoyed our beds soon.

Sunday morning training (which came after breakfast prepared by Theo and Věra Nováková – thanks to both of them!!!) was dedicated to foot

techniques, pad work and patterns. Lower group did special techniques, patterns and falls in the afternoon, higher belts focused only on special techniques. Petr Legner prepared funny games for young children (won by Anička Holanová) and we spent evening improving our social relations :o)

Lower group practiced power of their hand and foot techniques and also step sparring during Monday morning. We practiced sparring drills and stepping. In the afternoon lower group relaxed during gymnastics. Higher belts worked on power breaking skills and sport sparring. And because two trainings per day is plan for cowards, we added one more training in the evening to practice patterns in groups divided regarding belts.

Tuesday was last day before day off so our trainers decided to destroy us ? Morning trainings were pretty easy for both groups, but afternoon ones were very hard….HARD! We did different things (bag work – power breaking – sparring – pad work – patterns) in groups of 4 changing every 4 minutes. Thank God there was no evening training.

Wednesday!!! Finally day off. But few of us decided to travel to Adršpach rocks to make some cool photos. Happy ones (girls) traveled there by car with Ondra, the less happy ones (boys) traveled by train (but we learnt cool games from children traveling somewhere, train was crowded by children!). Basketball and football match started in the afternoon and it was tough because big cakes were the prices. Evening was dedicated to Tekken 2 tournament on Playstation which was won by Dan Dvořák in children group and Michal Zacharuk in adults. Both of them won Sonkal T-shirt.

Thursday. Both groups did easy training in the morning, just patterns and kicks. In the afternoon lower belts repeated their patterns techniques and learnt new one and then did gymnastics. We did power breaking and in the afternoon similar type of training like on Tuesday afternoon. Evening was dedicated to mobum matsogi (model sparring) tournament. It was fun to watch (looked painful sometimes ;o) – translator), lot of interesting ideas were shown. Whole tournament was won by great pair Ota Kotrhonz and Petr „Godzilla“ Legner.

Friday – last whole day on training camp. Basic and advanced kicks for beginners training and patterns and multiple flying kicks for advanced group. Lower belts practiced sparring stepping in the afternoon and we survived hell pad work (hard to describe, come next year and try ;). Petr Legner prepared more games for children, Kristýna Hudková won this time.

Saturday. Day of return back home and last training. Lower ranks did kicking combinations and self-defense. We did (as expected) „lactate“ (again you have to try 1 minute hard pad work, 1 minute break, then again and again and again and…), sparring and Brazilian exercising. All participants left to nearby forest to make some photos after lunch, and then pack all stuff and travel back to Prague.

Few guests participated in our camp, both from Czech Republic and other countries. Henryk Sikora (I. dan), Lada Oberreiterová (II. Dan) and Jan Weidlich (II. Dan) trained with us whole weekend. Petr Kremsa (II. Dan) from Plzeň stayed two more days. Guests from Slovakia Karol Molnár (V. Dan) and Andrea Szabová (III. Dan) came on Wednesday. Swiss students of our friend Peter Regan also came and trained hard – Sandra Gugisberg (2. kup) and Monika Fabcic (4. kup).

Unfortunately this training camp also had some injuries, hadn’t it Svíťa? (stitches from my toe will be removed tomorrow :-) - translator).

We are looking forward to meet you all on next camp. Taekwon!
