Czech national championship 2007 was special in many ways. At first, this year´s championship took 3 days instead of 2. Next, veteran category was officially presented in this event. And at last but not least, fifth part of competitions Taekwon-do was added – self-defense.

But start from the beginning. Third day of competition was added because of veteran category and also self-defense competition. Friday was dedicated to kids and veterans. Juniors´ competitions and also self-defense got all Saturday and finally Sunday was day of senior competition. S
uch a schedule had positive outcome and whole tournament had went smoothly. Special final matches in patterns and sparring were part of both Saturday and Sunday.

Despite of health problems of our team during autumn training camp – 30 Sonkal members took part in this tournament. And it was brand new experience for few of them!!!

Because our tkd school has no veterans, all medals gotten on Friday were through skills of our youngest – kids. Bronze medal of Kristýna Hudková (female kids patterns 6.-5.kup) was surprising but also deserved regarding of her hard training. We hope that this medal will be motivation for her next training. We were also happy from Saša Reynaudová´s sparring, she defeated her fear from sparring and beat 2 opponents in weight category -32kg. And got gold medal :o) Saša, Kristýna and Veronika Holečková then added second gold medal for our team – undoubting win in female kids team special techniques.

Saturday was day of test for our juniors. Our team was weaken by absence of Linda Deutchová (3 times European champion 2007) who suffered from spinal problems since her preparation for European championship. Only gold medal got Aneta Hemerová in female juniors patterns I. Dan and above. We have to mention that we are still not used to black color of her belt (she did black belt test in September), but her practice is still getting better and better. She beat few opponents and in final defeated her national team colleague Katka Boková.
No more gold medals from Saturday but more successes – 3 silver medals from sparring – Tomáš Vodička (male juniors B -69kg), Ivana Hřebačková (female juniors A -58 kg) and Monika Junová (female juniors A -64kg). Monika was very very near to gold medal – draw after 2 rounds and great skills showed also in extra round. Make your own opinion about this fight – check video gallery.

Third and last day, Sunday, was dedicated to senior competition. And our students got two gold medals. Newcomer of our team – Ota Kotrhonz gave no chance to his opponents (yellow and green belts) and got gold medal deservedly. Second gold medal got Milan Fulmek in 2.- 1.kup category. Milan is experienced in this category, but this was his first year in seniors....so another great success. Martin Beneš, who did great pattern duel with Milan in semi-final, got bronze medal in same category. Kristýna Štěpánková fought bravely in female seniors B sparring -63 kg and got gold medal despite of fact that weight difference (and advantage for her opponents) was often more than 10 kg. Last gold medal for Sonkal got Martina Kolandová, who used her tall figure 100% and won special techniques (female seniors B). Kristýna Štěpánková added bronze in special techniques and silver in patterns after her sparring success.

Sonkal got 8.place what cannot be considered success regarding to last year’s second place. But our team did lot of age premieres (changing age category) what is promise to coming years.
