Golden for the Second Time in History

The weekend 28th February – 1st March belonged to the traditional competition Czech Open which is held by Czech Taekwon-Do Federation. Because it´s an international contest, besides Czech schools there were also foreign ones who arrived.
Because of the coronavirus plague, many states were in quarantine so schools from those couldn´t visit the competition.

Compared to previous years, this time the number of contestants was little bit lower – 370 participants. It didn´t influence the competition to get started. On Saturday the contest began with patterns of seniors and youths and it proceeded with sparring, special techniques and power breaking. The next day was the juniors´ turn and they went on in the same way.

There was a little change which didn´t cause any trouble though. The referees had to work with different scoring system than they are used to. Considering the coming Europe Championship, the committee used the international scoring system. Referees who are supposed to be at the championship needed to learn how to work with it.

Our members were very successful especially Tereza Štekerová, Jiří Novák and Jan Veškrna who were awarded as the best competitors of their group. It was first time at all when Tereza managed to win all of the disciplines and she gained four golden medals.

Great performance of our competitors contributed to the fact that our school won the first place for the second time of the history of the Czech Open. For the first time it was six years ago in 2014.

Congratulations to all of the performances and I hope all of the contestants will go on with the training to be successful at other competitions.
