2.6.2011 / Interviews 2011

David Briza

I chose 31 years old David Bříza from Tong Il České Budějovice for next interview.

David started his training in 1992, but stopped after two years and started again five years ago.

He like sport in all of its forms and w

as interested in martial arts since childhood. „I chose Taekwon-Do for its diversity and philosophy.

Taekwondo gives him strength both in physical and psychical aspect and met many interesting people thank to it, especially his wonderful girlfriend. When I asked him what he enjoys the most on Taekwon-Do, he replied with smile „Everything! It was spectacular techniques at the beginning, but in years one gets deeper and starts to understand the complexity. Wonderful is that you may choose from plenty of disciplines.“

What is your opinion on competing?. „Many people think it is not necessary to compete. It is a pity, I think taking part in tournaments is great opportunity to compare one´s skills with other Taekwon-Do practitioners, but it is hard at the beginning because of fear.“

I noticed David´s black stripe and asked him how he is looking forward to his I. Dan test. He replied with wisdom: „I am looking forward to it, but color of belt is not so important, skill is important. I like saying – belt is for holding your pants.“

He did not want to tell me what is his strongest skill in Taekwon-Do saying that I should ask his instructor Mr. Rostislav Kaňka (who he really respects). Finally he said that because he is not too talented and started pretty late his strongest skill is probably perseverance.

I wish David lot of success not only on tatami.
