Biggest international event in Czech Republic

Czech republic´s biggest Taekwon-do ITF international event of this year - Czech Open. It took place in Nymburk April 6.-7. and was linked to number 10.
It was 10th Czech Open and 10 countries took part in it. Czech Open is becoming respected event of European standard thank to diligent and hard work of Tournament committee of Czech Taekwondo-do ITF federation. We hope to keep rising standard in future years.

Date of the event is scheduled in order to allow national team members to test their performance before European championship (this year 24.-28.April, Bled, Slovenia).

How was this anniversary competition regarding numbers? Three age categories (kids, juniors, seniors), four disciplines (patterns, sport sparring, special techniques and power breaking). As we mentioned above, 10 countries took part (Slovakia, Slovenia, Russia, Belarus, Latvia, Hungary, Netherland, Greenland, Scotland and home Czech Republic), 31 Taekwon-do schools and 277 competitors.

Saturday morning registration was without delay and opening ceremony started at 2 PM welcoming all countries. Pattern competition started immediately and main ring no.1 was dedicated to black belts only.

Special rings 5. and 6. were solely dedicated to power breaking and special techniques which started in the afternoon. Whole kids event was finished during Saturday as was planned.

Czech Taekwon-Do ITF federation presented new promotional wall designed by Martin Gottwald from everyday.cz studio with photo from last year´s Worlds made by Petr Poklop (chief-instructor of Dan-Gun dojang Prague). Also new awarding posts were presented.

Saturday schedule finished slightly before 8 PM with awarding the most succesful kids competitors – male Domen Zabukovnik (taekwon-do ITF Skala Velenje from Slovenia) and female Polina Medvedeva (Latvia).

Sunday competition started at 8:30 AM mainly in sport sparring. All went fluently with speed of rocket, so in early afternoon competition was finished.

The most succesful competitors in low belts (group B) were male junior Jan Korbel (taekwon-do ITF Won Hyo Třeboň), female junior Pavla Hvězdová (Taekwon-Do ITF Silla) and male senior Jan Pospíšil (Taekwon-Do ITF Tong-il České Budějovice). Female senior was not awarded because of same results in two competitors.

In group A (red belts and above) these were awarded: male junior Martin Brabenec (taekwon-do ITF Ge-Baek Hosin Sool), female junior Anna Nevludová (taekwon-Do ITF Frýdek Místek), male senior Filip Gavlas (taekwon-do ITF Frýdek Místek) and female senior Ilona Hambergerová (taekwon-do ITF Karviná).

The most successful school of the tournament was taekwon-do ITF Frýdek Místek (chief-instructor Kateřina Birkášová), defending their title from last year and their nowadays invincibility. Second place went to taekwon-do ITF Ge-baek Hosin Sool (chief-instructor Martin Zámečník) and third was taekwon-do ITF Sonkal Praha (chief-instructor Ondřej Vrábel).

Congratulations to everyone successful and thank you for your participation. We are looking forward to see you again next year on 11. Czech OPEN.
